Product Features
Many collectors and recreational standard dress divers want to have period correct equipment to go with their helmets. The US Navy drawing of 1942 for the heavy weight belt specified 1/4" thickness for the leather pieces. Finding hides thick enough to meet this specification was difficult then and is near impossible now. DESCO's leather vendor special ordered hides as thick as possible to make these sets of leather belt parts. You may have seen old belts with stitching on them. That was to laminate leather pieces together to make them thick enough. Today for DESCO to produce parts laminated to Navy spec would make the retail price prohibitive. The labor involved would be a significant additional cost. This set of parts are not laminated but do have the stitching to give them the period appearance collectors desire. All the parts are cut from a single hide to keep the color and grain consistent. Modern tanning processes make the leather more durable and water resistant than back in the day. This set includes: one waist belt, two shoulder straps, one jock strap, two waist buckle tie pieces, two shoulder buckle tie pieces (front weights), and one jock buckle tie piece. Color is Black.
